Shaykh Ibn al Qayyim, rahimahullaah:

If it is difficult for them to abandon sins, he should then strive to get them to love Allah by reminding them of His signs, blessings, kindness, perfection, and Loftiness. This is because the hearts are naturally designed to love Him, and if they become attached to loving Him, it then becomes extremely easy to abandon sins and to detach oneself from them.

Yahya bin Mu'adh said: "The intelligent one seeking the dunya is better than the ignorant one abandoning it."

The smart one calls the people to Allah from their dunya, and this makes it easier for them to respond to him. The zahid calls them to Allah by way of abandoning the dunya, and this makes it hard for them to respond, since it is very hard to pull someone away from the breast that he has developed his mind while suckling on..."

Tranquility & Peace

By
Shaykh ul –Islaam
Ibn Qayyim aj-Jawzeeyah as-Salafi
-Rahimullaah-
From his book
 ‘Madarij as-Salikeen’
Translated by
Abbas Abu Yahya

Shamsuddeen Muhammad bin Abee Bakr Ibn Qayyim aj-Jawzeeyah (d.751 A.H.) -Rahimullaah-  said:
‘Indeed Allaah mentioned ‘as-Sakeenah’ (Tranquility) in His Book in six places:
1) The saying of Allaah Ta’ala:
<< وَقَالَ لَهُمْ نَبِيُّهُمْ إِنَّ آيَةَ مُلْكِهِ أَنْ يَأْتِيَكُمُ التَّابُوتُ فِيهِ سَكِينَةٌ مِنْ رَبِّكُمْ >>
<<  And their prophet said to them, Indeed, a sign of his kingship is that the chest will come to you in which is assurance from your Lord >>[al-Baqarah: 248]
2) The saying of Allaah Ta’ala:
<< ثُمَّ أَنْزَلَ اللَّهُ سَكِينَتَهُ عَلَى رَسُولِهِ وَعَلَى الْمُؤْمِنِينَ >>
<<  Then Allah sent down His tranquility upon His Messenger and upon the believers >>[Tawbah: 26]

“Every time you feel the loneliness of isolation, remember your companions who have preceded you and be eager to join them; and do not be concerned with others, for they will not avail you at all before Allah. And if they call out to you during your journey, do not turn to them, for whenever you respond to them, they will take you and set you in another direction.”

'O you of little resolve, where do you stand upon this path?

''O you of little resolve, where do you stand upon this path? Adam found it difficult and Nuh lamented because of it, while Allaah’s Khaleel Ibraaheem was thrown into a pit of fire due to it. Isma’eel was laid upon his side ready to be sacrificed for its sake, and while upon it Yusuf was sold for a cheap price and then fals
ely cast into prison for many years. Zakariyah was sawed in half, and Yahya was slaughtered due to it. Ayyub suffered great distress, while Dawood cried copiously, and ‘Isaa cured the wretched poor of their diseases and walked with wild beasts due to it. And how many, how many forms of difficulty and hardship did the Messenger Muhammad (sallallaahu ‘alayhi wa sallam) face while proceeding upon it – yet you live through amusements and distractions!''

Ibn Qayyim al-Jawziyyah:

"Never
the love of song and the love of Qur'an come together in a person’s heart except that one expels the other."
